Taste of Everest (14 days)

For those who have slightly less time available, or who want to target a less physically demanding trek, then our Taste of Everest trip will be just for you.

Experience the sights of Kathmandu, the thrill of flying into Lukla at the base of the Khumbu Valley, and visit the Sherpa capital of Namche and the twin villages of Khunde and Khumjung. You reach an altitude of 3,840m, higher than New Zealand’s Mt Cook, and gain a stunning up-valley yiew of the High Himalaya mountains including Everest and Ama Dablam.

Itinerary

After two days enjoying the sights of historic Kathmandu, trekkers fly from Kathmandu to the alpine airport at Lukla. Lukla, at an altitude of 2,840m, is a significant village through which many trekkers and mountaineers pass each year. We are joined by porters who carry our kit-bags for us, enabling us to carry just day packs with our immediate requirements.

From Lukla we enjoy short trekking days to Phakdingma and Jorsale, both sited on the banks of the snow-fed Dhud Khosi River. On to bustling Namche, where we acclimatize over two nights, enjoy the Tibetan markets and taste traditional Sherpa life.

From Namche we venture to Khunde where we visit the Himalaya Trust hospital, and on to nearby Khumjung with its Edmund Hillary Secondary School. Khumjung is a delightful village off the normal trekkers’ route, so we overnight here to savor a highlight day of our trek.

Next day we descend to Namche where we stop for lunch before rejoining the Dhud Khosi River to Phakdingma. Our final trekking day is a pleasant 3 hour stroll to Muse village, where we are hosted for lunch at the home of our Sherpa guides Nima and Tashi. After lunch we ascend to Lukla where we will celebrate our trek and farewell our Sherpa friends.

From Lukla to Kathmandu, and a chance for some reflection and relaxation before we commence our journey home.

Download our optional excursion to the Royal Chitwan National Park, a three day add-on to our trip that takes us to just north of the border with India, to a Park that abounds with animal and bird life.
