The Sherpa culture is remarkable, and we embrace it at every opportunity. Many trekking companies employ non-Sherpas for their Everest region trips, and as a result, their trekkers miss out on this very important aspect of the Nepal experience. For us, we have long-established contacts with the Sherpa people, ensuring doors are opened to us, and every opportunity is available to experience Sherpa life. All our Sherpa guides have good English speaking skills.

Pictured from top are: Kami, Tashe, Nima & John Gully, and Chhepal.

Kami Sherpa

Based in Kathmandu, Kami is a widely experienced Sherpa Guide who has worked with us since 2000. Originally from the small village of Muse, below Lukla, he completed a Commerce degree in Kathmandu. He is an experienced tour operater in his own right. He has excellent English skills and a typically infectious Sherpa smile and great sense of humour.

Tashe Lama

Tashe has guided with us for over 7 years. Since the age of 5 he has been in the Buddhist Monastery in Lukla. Now in his mid 20's, Tashe is revered throughout the Everest region and is respected for his work and teachings. He is sought after to conduct ceremonies throughout the valley. Tashe has a wonderful gentle personality and endears himself to our trekkers.

Nima Dorje

Nima was a very able climber who summitted Nanga Parbat with Reinhold Messner in 1984. One of the most experienced Sherpa guides in the Khumbu, Nima now works exclusively with us at Everest Treks. He lives on his farm at Muse, and always welcomes our trekkers to visit his home as part of their trek.

Chhepal Sherpa

Chhepal comes from the well-known village of Khumjung in the Everest valley. After graduating with distinction from the Hillary Khumjung Secondary School, he completed a commerce and engineering diploma in Kathmandu. Chhepal has worked with us since 2006, and is our Project Manager for the nursery and reforestation project that we are sponsoring in Ghaat Village.
