John Gully QSM - Founder & Managing Director

John has been trekking in the Everest region for 29 years and has guided over 1200 people on Youth to Everest and Everest Base Camp treks.  He managed climbing expeditions to Mt Everest in 1988, 1989 and 1990 before concentrating on trekking and conservation work.  John lives in St Arnaud, Nelson Lakes National Park.  In the 2013 New Year's Honours John was awarded the Queens Service Medal for services to New Zealand Nepal relations.

Richard Adams - Director & Trek Leader

Richard joined John as a shareholding partner in Everest Treks following his participation in a Base Camp trek run by John in 2004.  He has provided marketing and financial input to the business as well as regularly returning to Nepal, most recently as a Youth to Everest Group Leader.  Richard is Auckland based and is part owner of two manufacturing businesses.  Richard is keen to support the Sherpa people of the Khumbu Valley, and has been particularly involved in the reforestation project undertaken by Everest Treks.


Vicki Reid ONZM - Trek Coordinator

Vicki runs the administration of our treks from our Nelson office and experienced Nepal first hand with a Youth to Everest trip in 2011.  A netball official with international experience, her appointments include the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India and three World Championships.  In 2011 Vicki became an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the community.

Chhepal Dorje Sherpa - Nepal Operations Manager

Chhepal is from Khunde Village in the Everest Valley of Nepal.  He attended Khumjung High School before completing a diploma in Engineering in Kathmandu. Chhepal first worked with us as a Porter, before gaining promotion to Sherpa Guide, Sirdar (Head Sherpa) and now Nepal Operations Manager. In 2012 he was a climbing Sherpa for American Expedition and reached the South Col (Camp 4). In his role as Nepal Operations Manager he is also coordinating our post-earthquake support programme in Khunde.

Dr David Austin - Medical Advisor

Dr Dave Austin has been on two Youth to Everest treks with us and climbed in Nepal on several occasions.  He is currently Associate Professor, Rockhampton Hospital, Queensland, previously Director Intensive Care Services, Rockhamption Hospital and prior to that, Clinical Director, Intensive Care Unit, Whangarei Base Hospital.  He has sailed a Whitbread yacht race, worked on New Zealand ski fields, and lectured on physiological changes at altitude.
